Liberia has announced plans to prosecute one of its citizens for allegedly lying about not having contact with infected persons, before he boarded a flight to the United States.
The man, Thomas Eric Duncan, has become the first person to be diagnosed with Ebola Virus on United States soil.
Duncan is currently in critical-yet-stable condition at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas after being admitted on Sunday, The Independent reports.
According to reports, he had traveled to Dallas, Texas to visit his family, and it is suspected that he came in direct or indirect contact with up to 100 adults and children before he was hospitalized.
Before boarding the flight to Dallas, Duncan was asked to fill in a questionnaire about his health and activities during the airport screening process. He answered “no” to all questions relating to having contact with Ebola-infected persons.
However, it was later discovered that he had helped carry a pregnant woman to a taxi, who later died of Ebola. It is unclear whether Duncan knew of the woman’s diagnosis before he traveled to the United States.
