Ogunleye becomes NIJ provost

Seasoned journalist and media scholar, Mr. Gbemiga Ogunleye, has been appointed as the new provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos State.

In a statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary of the Governing Council of the Institute on Monday, Mr. Dotun Adenijo, his appointment was described as a demonstration of the council’s commitment to upholding the spirit of excellence that the institution is reputed for in media practice.


Ogunleye, who succeeds Dr. Elizabeth Ikem, has over 32 years experience in media practice. He has headed many divisions of reputable newspapers such as the The PUNCH, The Guardian Times, A.M News and he is at present the Deputy Director of News, TVC News International.

Adenijo stated, “His proven track record, cognate experience and excellent leadership qualities provide a springboard for the next phase in the institution’s development.’

He will be assisted by Mr. Jide Johnson, who has been appointed as the Deputy Provost of the institution.

Ogunleye, also a barrister at law, holds a Masters of Science degree in Media and Communications from the Pan Atlantic University.

He is also a graduate of Linguistics from the University of Benin.

His appointment takes effect from March 2, 2015.
