Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia State, and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party has said the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram is politically instigated by some enemies of democracy in Nigeria.
According to the Nation, the ex-governor, who made this assertion while speaking at the national secretariat of the PDP, expressed optimism that with someone like him in the party, President Goodluck Jonathan’s victory in 2015 general election is sure.
Kalu, who noted that democracy is not about one person or President Jonathan, urged Nigerians to join hands to move democracy forward. He hinted that the President was doing everything humanly possible to rescue the abducted Chibok girls, adding that the Nigerian military also deserve our appreciation for the work they are doing.
The former governor further stated that terrorism is new to the country, and that it was politically motivated by certain people who do not want Jonathan to seek re-election in 2015. He urged such persons to allow President Jonathan to complete his tenure.
While fielding question on his relationship with the sitting governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji, he dispelled any dispute and described the incumbent as a great asset to Nigeria. Although there were reports that the ex-governor’s defection to the PDP was resisted by Orji and some bigwigs in the state, Kalu claimed he had rejoined the party since two years ago.
It was gathered that Kalu has indicated interest to run for Senate in 2015, despite strong opposition from Orji and other chieftains with vested interests in Abia.
The Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has always expressed the believe that insurgency is politically motivated as it would be recalled that on August 8, 2014, he assured that President Jonathan will run for Presidency in 2015 Elections, despite efforts by Boko Haram to blackmail him in giving up. It would be recalled that outspoken former governor on April 28, 2014, also took a swipe at the former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, following a memo he sent to Northern Governors’ Forum, alleging genocide against President Goodluck Jonathan, regarding the war on terrorism.
