A federal air marshal of the US on Sunday, September 7, was injected with a syringe. It was full of unknown substance. The incident reportedly happened in Lagos, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The American official was attacked by an unknown suspect at the Lagos airport. This development was confirmed by TSA’s Transportation Security Operations Center on Monday evening, September 8. The alert stated that it was an isolated incident:
“The [air marshal] reported that the subject stuck him with a syringe and it is believed he was injected with an unknown substance.” The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention observed the victim and said that:
“The victim did not exhibit any signs of illness during the flight and was transported to a hospital upon landing for further testing.”
After the screening was done, the American citizen flight back to Texas, USA. The syringe used for the attack was also taken to the USA for examination. During the flight, the victim didn’t show any signs of illness. As soon as the plane landed, the air marshal was taken to hospital for a further tests.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations in the US started to investigate this case, but as for now, early indications are limited to a criminal nexus. A spokesman for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Yakubu Dati, stated that officials were aware of the reports and have been in contact with US diplomats. Security cameras from the Lagos airport were reviewed. The spokesman says;
“Preliminary observation from the CCTV (closed-circuit television) footage did not show evidence of such (an) occurrence.”

Though the cause of death is yet unknown, a top security operative at the airport said the diplomat may have died of heart-related complications.
