Colombia’s Juan Zuniga has not only seemingly become the most vilified man in Brazil after ending Neymar’s World Cup – but the defender has also become the target for abuse and anger on Twitter.
Zuniga kneed the 22-year-old in the back towards the end of the
quarter-final tie in Fortaleza on Friday, which resulted in Neymar being
stretchered off the field in tears.
Team doctor, Rodrigo Lasma, later revealed that the Barcelona forward
would miss the rest of the tournament with a fractured vertebra but
wouldn’t require surgery for the injury.
Zuniga defended his challenge, saying that he didn’t intend to hurt
Neymar, but his explanation has not gone down well with Brazil fans with
many taking to Twitter to express their anger at the 28-year-old.
Many accused the Napoli defender of intentionally trying to hurt the
Selecao’s talisman – who has scored four goals at the World Cup – while
others posted creepy and weird tweets and some, sadly, resorted to
racially abusing Zuniga.
