National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu
A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State, Mr. John Dara, has called on the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, to resign his appointment.
A statement by Dara explained that the honourable thing for Mu’azu to do was to resign his appointment because the party had suffered serious defeats in the last general elections.
Dara said Mu’azu’s tenure was regressive to the bid of PDP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who became the first sitting president to lose a presidential election.
He said, “There is no doubt that it is reasonable for Mu’azu to resign as he presided over elections that PDP recorded a poor performance.
“He should resign to show that he accepted responsibility for the poor outing the party.”
But another former governorship aspirant of the PDP in Kwara State during the just concluded governorship elections, Mr. Sunday Babalola, said Mu’azu alone should not be held responsible or made a scapegoat for the failure of the PDP.
According to him, there were many challenges that the party had to weather through.
He also said Mu’azu was not the leader of the party, saying that the leader of PDP is Jonathan.
He stated that the party’s major focus should not be the resignation of Mu’azu but the rebuilding of the party.
He, however, said the party’s performance during the tenure of Mu’azu was very poor.
Babalola said, “I do not think that our failure is his fault and I do not think his resignation will change things as we are trying to reorganise the party. There were issues before he became the chairman. By our action or in-action, the party did not do well. I think the first thing we should do is to reorganise and reenergise the party and move forward.
“The party can move forward with him at the helms of affairs. He was not the leader of the party. He was the chairman of the party.
“His tenure was very poor. He did poorly because when he met the situation, he should have reacted to the situation but we may never know the forces against him.”
