Like Prof. Chukwuemeka Ike, who is the Eze of Ndikelionwu in Anambra State, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III of Obosi – in the same state – is fully involved in creative writing.

The monarch is not only enthusiastic about literary production, he has published some books and regularly attends the annual international convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors.

“I started writing when I was in Form Two in secondary school. This was in the early 1970s. I started by writing short stories,” he says, in an interview with our correspondent.

Accident: APC condoles with Bayelsa govt, Patience

The All Progressives Congress has condoled with the Bayelsa State Government and the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan, over the death of 11 of her women supporters in an auto accident on Saturday.

In a statement on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party expressed shock and sadness at the untimely death of the women, who were mothers, wives, sisters and daughters.

It prayed that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and also give their bereaved families the strength to bear their losses.

We’ve spent N59bn on federal roads – LASG

The Lagos State Government on Monday claimed to have spent over N59bn on the construction and rehabilitation of federal roads within the state in the past few years.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Obafemi Hamzat, who spoke at a press conference in Lagos, said it became necessary to put the records straight following a claim by the Minister of State for Works, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, in a recent interview that apart from federal road projects, nothing had been done in the state.

Hamzat said, “A lot of people listened to the commentary and it is ideal to set the records straight. Some of the things that the minister of state said were that if you remove the federal roads from Lagos, including the Funsho Williams Avenue, Ikorodu Road and the Third Mainland Bridge, that there is nothing else in Lagos.

FG to sell Nigerian Communications Satellite –BPE

The Federal Government says it has decided to sell the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited in order to inject the entrepreneurial spirit into the running of the company, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Benjamin Dikki, has said.

Dikki said this when the Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency, Prof. Seidu Mohammed, paid him a courtesy visit, according to a statement made available to our correspondent by the Acting Head of Public Communications, BPE, Mr. Alex Okoh.

Ogunleye becomes NIJ provost

Seasoned journalist and media scholar, Mr. Gbemiga Ogunleye, has been appointed as the new provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos State.

In a statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary of the Governing Council of the Institute on Monday, Mr. Dotun Adenijo, his appointment was described as a demonstration of the council’s commitment to upholding the spirit of excellence that the institution is reputed for in media practice.
