Boko Haram kills 48 fish vendors in Nigeria


Kano - Boko Haram gunmen killed 48 fish vendors in Nigeria's restive Borno State, near the border with Chad, the head of the fish traders association told AFP on Sunday.

Burkina govt set to be named after delay


Ouagadougou - The delayed announcement of Burkina Faso's interim government ministers is expected on Sunday, with the country waiting to see the extent of military influence under civilian President Michel Kafando.

Kafando, the interim president, issued a statement on Saturday that planned first meetings of the cabinet and the National Transitional Council, or parliament, were "delayed and will take place at a date to be announced".

Sudan rebels claim raids on Blue Nile army bases


Khartoum - Sudanese rebels said Sunday they attacked two military bases in war-torn Blue Nile state, days after attending a round of peace talks with the government.

The Sudan Peoples Liberation Army-North raided the bases in Blue Nile last week "in retaliation for the aerial bombardment" of two towns, SPLA-N spokesperson Arnu Lodi said in a statement.

Nelson Mandela Bay to regain control of old age homes


Johannesburg - The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality wants to regain control of run-down old age homes in the towns of Korsten and Bethelsdorp in the Eastern Cape, it said on Sunday.

"The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality’s mayoral committee resolved to decisively deal with run-down old age homes in the northern areas," mayoral spokesperson Kupido Baron said in a statement.

Los Angeles - Miley Cyrus is throwing a £6 000 Christmas party for homeless people.

The 21-year-old star - who is known for her controversial on-stage antics, including scantily-clad twerking - is determined to show her "caring and sensitive" side by employing a chef to cook a three-course dinner for her guests and enlisting waiters and waitresses to wine and dine them.
