Boko Haram Storm Bama, Borno, Nigerian Army Defend Well

The war against terrorism continues in Borno State, as Nigerian Army repelled a massive Boko Haram attack on Bama hours ago. According to SaharaReporters, the terrorists targeted Bama, which is a strategic city with the population of about 500,000 people.

Jacob Zuma’s mysterious mission to Russia

Russia's President Vladimir Putin shakes hands with Jacob Zuma during their meeting at the Novo-Ogaryovo state residence

Johannesburg - It was a six-day visit with a most unpunishing schedule.
Although the Presidency issued a press release about Zuma’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a veil of secrecy was drawn over the details of the rest of his visit, City Press reports.

His only other known meeting was with Michael Margelov, Putin’s special representative for cooperation with African states, with whom he discussed African peacekeeping and Russia’s concerns about Islamic extremists gaining a foothold in Africa.

Unusually, for a long visit to an important ally, Zuma was accompanied only by State Security Minister David Mahlobo and Deputy International Relations Minister Nomaindia Mfeketo.

What's next for Thuli Madonsela?

Johannesburg - After the Public Protector called for an end to hostilities with the ANC last week, City Press sat down with her to ask how she keeps up.

Where do you draw your strength from?

I have a spiritual dynamic and I believe that every human being is doing the best they can.

I do get upset and irritated, and I just have to manage that.

One difficult moment was the first tweet from the ruling party during the press conference [on Wednesday] and I thought we’ve done the attacking and how do we move forward.

I always remember that everyone is doing their best and if they knew better, they’d do better.

But remember that the attacks have also come from a minority within the governing party.

Mugabe: SA is failing AU because of whites

Johannesburg - Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe says South Africa is failing to lead the economic development of countries in the African Union (AU) because its economy is in the hands of the white minority, City Press reports.

Speaking at a function attended by African diplomats stationed in Beijing, China, on Monday where Sierra Leone ambassador Victor Bockarie Foh and Liberia’s McKinley Thomas heaped praise on him, Mugabe said South Africa was in a compromised situation.

“We would love to see South Africa taking the lead. But the country’s economy is still controlled by the white community, making it difficult [for blacks] to take charge.”
