Sportsmen set agenda for Buhari’s govt

Some stakeholders in Nigerian sports have congratulated the President-elect Maj Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd) on his victory in the general elections and have outlined ways on how sports can be better developed in the country.

Buhari will be sworn in as Nigeria’s President on May 29, replacing President Goodluck Jonathan in Aso Rock, and the stakeholders believe the incoming president has much to do in taking sports to a higher level.

Nigerian athletes have achieved relative successes in recent time as they excelled at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, won the 2013 U17 FIFA World Cup, featured in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, won the 2014 Africa Women’s Championship and recently won the CAF African Youth Championship.

What are your thoughts on the results of the Presidential election?


It all went well. It was an eye opener. There is a Latin saying that “the voice of the people is the voice of God.” The people have spoken, and the decision has been taken. People from other countries, especially Africa, will learn from us.

The biometric method adopted by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the voting process has made rigging difficult. It has solved a lot of problems and the electorate too were very precise.

Education also played a great role in the process; more people are enlightened.

Patience Jonathan seeks support for Buhari’s wife



Wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, on Wednesday congratulated Hajia Aisha Buhari, wife of the President-elect on her husband’s victory during the Saturday’s presidential election.

In a three-paragraph statement by her media aide, Ayo Adewuyi, Mrs. Jonathan appealed to Nigerian women to support Hajia Buhari in order to succeed in her new assignment.

The statement read, “The First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan (Mama Peace) has congratulated the wife of the President-elect, Hajia Aisha Buhari on the election of her husband, General Muhammadu Buhari.
