Iran former vice president taken to jail


Tehran - Iran's official IRNA news agency says the country's former first vice president has been taken to jail to serve his prison term.

Mohammad Reza Rahimi, a top aide to former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was convicted by Iran's supreme court last month of corruption and sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay a 10 billion rial ($300 000) fine. The court also ordered Rahimi to pay compensation equivalent to some $800 000.

Argentinian President formally charged


Buenos Aires - Argentinian President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was formally charged Friday with the alleged cover-up of Iran's involvement in a 1994 attack on a Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires that claimed the lives of 85 people.

Prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita charged Fernandez de Kirchner in connection with the complaint that Alberto Nisman filed on 14 January. Nisman, who had been investigating the attack on the community centre for 11 years, was found dead in his apartment, under mysterious circumstances, just four days later.

Argentinian Foreign Minister Hector Timerman and two other pro-government politicians were also charged in connection with the alleged cover-up.

Sanchez 'not himself': Wenger


London - Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez is "not himself" and could be feeling the effects of fatigue after making an impressive start to life in the Premier League, manager Arsene Wenger said.

The 26-year-old has been Arsenal's standout performer this season and has scored 18 goals in 32 appearances since signing from Barcelona for £35 million in July.

But the Chile international went off with a knee injury in last week's 2-1 win over Leicester City and Wenger conceded that Sanchez may be showing signs of fatigue.

Boko Haram attack military formation in Gombe, state govt impose 24hr curfew


Boko Haram militants this morning attacked a military formation in Dadikowa town in Gombe state. The sect members reportedly arrived the town at about 6am today in 36 Hilux buses and a dozen motorcycles and attacked soldiers at the security checkpoints of the town. They then forced their way into the town and burnt the quarter guard of the 301 Artillery Regiment. They bugled some shops and also burnt down public institutions including the police station in the town.
